FC Cologne: El Mala Stays – At Least for This Season

FC Cologne's Thomas Kessler remains confident that Said El Mala will remain with the club despite interest from Borussia Dortmund. The 19-year-old forward is expected to start his Bundesliga career this season.

Kessler spoke about the situation on MagentaTV: 'We have a long-term contract, and we see no reason to let the player go – I expect him to play in the Bundesliga for Cologne this year.'

The 19-year-old El Mala, who has already played for Germany's national team, was well utilized during Cologne's pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad San Sebastian on August 28th. He was part of the lineup until halftime.

Transfer Interest from Dortmund – Flexible Financial Model

While Kessler is confident about El Mala's future with the club, there is still interest from Borussia Dortmund. Sportchef Thomas Kessler stated: 'We have also said that if something comes along that is in line with what we're looking for as a club, then we will engage in discussions.'

A potential transfer would depend on the right financial package. Kessler added: 'We are starting to look at new signings soon and the market is moving. We still have other players to consider. The pricing model is flexible based on demand. We shouldn't lock ourselves into anything just yet.'

Cologne kicks off its new season with a friendly against Real Sociedad San Sebastian, showing early positive signs. Linton Maina (5) and Nilas Yacobi (78) scored the two goals for Cologne, while El Mala was on the field for an hour.
