The transfer saga surrounding the German shooting star of the past Bundesliga season seemed to be coming to an end on Thursday. According to Bild, FC Köln had decided to accept the 50 million euro offer from Brentford for the 19-year-old forward. The base transfer fee was to be 45 million euros, with five additional bonuses. The offer also included a 15% resale clause. El Mala was to sign a contract with Brentford until 2030 and earn four million euros per year. A deadline had been agreed upon by both clubs, which was to expire on Friday. By then, the Bees were to receive a response from the Domstädter - and it was supposed to be positive. However, the situation is now different on the player's side. El Mala's mother is handling the negotiations with Brentford, the Premier League club is offering a XXL provision for the parents. According to Sky, the family has now cancelled the record transfer and rejected Brentford. The reason: El Mala may be speculating on an offer from a larger club. His future is now again 'completely open' it is said. Both for the Effzeh and for Brentford, the deal with El Mala would have been a record transfer. El Mala would have replaced Anthony Modeste as the most expensive sale in club history (2018 for 29 million euros to TJ Quanjian) and also Dango Ouattara as the most expensive purchase in Brentford's history (for 42.8 million euros from AFC Bournemouth).
