FC Koln have completed the signing of 18-year-old attacking prodigy Reigan Heskey from Manchester City on a contract running until 2031. The transfer fee is reported to be around two million euros, with sell-on clauses and performance-related add-ons also agreed. The move comes as the club looks to replace left winger Jakub Kaminski, who joined Benfica Lisbon this summer.
Who is Reigan Heskey?
The English teenager is the son of former Premier League striker Emile Heskey, who scored 110 goals in over 500 top-flight appearances. Reigan himself broke into Manchester City’s U21 side at 16 and made his first-team debut under Pep Guardiola in September 2025. At the 2025 U17 World Cup in winter, he scored four goals and provided three assists in five games before earning a call-up to the U19s the same year.
He marked his U19 debut in the 2025 European Championship qualifier against Bulgaria with a goal and an assist. FC Koln sporting director Thomas Kessler hailed Heskey as “one of the best attacking talents of his generation internationally” and said his style fits the club perfectly.
Why does Heskey fit at FC Koln?
Heskey’s game resembles that of Koln’s own left-sided star Said El Mala. Both are direct, quick, strong on the right foot and thrive in one-on-one situations. The teenager will wear the number 11 shirt, previously worn by Florian Kainz, who retired this summer.
While the transfer makes sense given Kaminski’s departure, Heskey is unlikely to start immediately. Kessler stressed the priority is to help the youngster “successfully translate his outstanding qualities into senior football.” The competition in attack has just stepped up.
The transfer details and competition
Koln paid around two million euros for Heskey, with sell-on clauses and performance-related add-ons included. Manchester City retained a buy-back option – a clear sign of Heskey’s value. The teenager said talks with club officials showed him “my style of play fits the club really well.”
Heskey is the third new arrival this summer after Luka Lochoshvili (over four million euros from Nürnberg) and Gideon Mensah (free). The battle for places in attack is fierce, but Heskey brings the potential to be a breakout performer.
What’s next for Heskey?
He is set to join training this week and prepare for the new season. His Bundesliga debut may still be weeks away, but his talent is undeniable. Fans will be eager to see if the young Englishman can deliver on expectations.
FC Koln have made a move that ticks both sporting and financial boxes. By signing a young, internationally experienced attacker, they aim to strengthen their frontline for the long term. The coming weeks will reveal whether the gamble pays off.
