FC Koln played a 2-2 draw against 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 on matchday 16. Marvin Pieringer and Julian Niehues put the home team in the lead twice, but Eric Martel and Saïd El Mala equalized for the Cologne team. The game started with committed Cologne players, who had 85 percent ball possession in the first minutes. The first big chance was for Ragnar Ache, who failed to score after a pass from Jakub Kamiński against Heidenheim's goalkeeper Diant Ramaj. Other chances were also had by Kamiński himself and Sirlord Conteh. But then Heidenheim struck out of nowhere - and how! Jan Schöppner crossed from the right, and Marvin Pieringer finished with a spectacular overhead kick to make it 1-0. The Cologne response didn't take long: just three minutes later, Eric Martel headed in after a cross from Alessio Castro-Montes to make it 1-1. So the game continued, with many chances on both sides. Saïd El Mala scored with a dreamy long-range shot to make it 2-2. The 19-year-old offensive player once again underlined his reputation as a joker king. With strong dribbling and further dangerous shots, El Mala remained a constant nuisance in the Heidenheim defense. The best chance to win was for Ache in stoppage time, when he failed to score after a cross from Marius Bülter, completely free in front of the goal, against Ramaj. But the Cologne team had to be content with a draw. So the game ended 2-2. FC Koln remains in the table in place. The Cologne team will prepare for the next game to get three points again.
