Florian Kainz, former captain of 1. FC Köln, trains for his first half-marathon. The ex-star talks about his new life and his sporting goals. "I am now 33 years old and have decided to end my professional career. But I won't be bored", says Kainz in an interview with Bild.
What is his goal?
"My goal is to complete the half-marathon in Graz on October 11. I have already run 9 kilometers and have a pace of 5:35 minutes per kilometer. I am very motivated and hope to achieve my goal", says Kainz.
Why in Graz and not in Cologne?
"I would have liked to run in Cologne, but it doesn't fit in terms of time. The run in Graz has simply been offered. Graz is a beautiful city and it will certainly be a nice experience. But maybe I'll manage to start in Cologne next year", says Kainz.
What comes next?
"In the winter, skiing again! During my career, it was simply too risky. I'm already looking forward to it, we're planning a ski vacation. My goal is to first complete the half-marathon, it will be my premiere", says Kainz.
How does it look two and a half months after the career end with football?
"Football will always be a part of my life. I will also continue to follow the FC. At the test match against Real Sociedad, I was in the stadium. Watching the game as a fan was new – but I'm fine with my decision", says Kainz.
