FC Koln is planning transfers, but a 70 million euro problem is hindering the plans of Sports Boss Thomas Kessler. Said El Mala and Jakub Kaminski could leave the club and bring in up to 70 million euros into the Cologne transfer fund. The FC has so far only drawn three purchase options and has not yet signed an external newcomer. Coach René Wagner has to improvise a lot, as the squad will only be finalized late. Other clubs like Brentford and Brighton have already made offers for the top stars. Kaminski's exit clause expires in mid-July, after which his transfer fee is freely negotiable. So critical is the FC situation that Kessler could spend a lot of money if the top stars leave the club. But until then, he has to look for loan players and put off potential candidates. The transfer summer is becoming a gamble for Kessler, as he does not know how much money will ultimately be available. The FC has already spent 14 million euros on the drawn purchase options and the total transfer budget is 20 to 25 million euros. Without the top star sales, big jumps are not possible. But Kessler hopes that his desired players will not jump off in this lengthy process and join another club. So the reality is that Kessler must initially look for loan players. The squad will only be finalized very late this season and coach René Wagner has to improvise a lot. The question is whether both players will really leave the club and above all when. Until the last transfer day on September 1st, 20:00, a lot can still happen.
