FC Koln has no players in the squad for the U19 European Championship in Wales. National coach Christian Wörns excluded all talents from FC Koln in his selection. In recent years, the youth department of FC Koln, especially the U19, has made headlines. Last year, the team under coach Stefan Ruthenbeck won the championship and reached the final this season, where they were defeated by TSG Hoffenheim. Despite these successes, no player from the FC Koln academy will participate in the upcoming U19 European Championship. However, four talents are on standby: U19 captain Jonathan Friemel, Luis Stapelmann, and Bundesliga debutants Cenny Neumann and Fynn Schenten. Coach Wörns explained that there were many tough decisions and they could only nominate 18 outfield players. Group B includes Denmark, the host nation, and record winners Spain. The goal for the German team is to reach at least the semifinals.
