No Cologne Talents in the Squad
FC Cologne has no players in the U19 European Championship squad in Wales. Coach Christian Wörns omitted all club talents from his nomination.
Successes of the U19 Academy
In recent years the club’s youth department, especially the U19, has attracted attention. Last year the team won the championship under coach Stefan Ruthenbeck and reached the final this season, where they were defeated by TSG Hoffenheim.
Standby Players
Four talents are on standby: U19 captain Jonathan Friemel, Luis Stapelmann, and the Bundesliga debutants Cenny Neumann and Fynn Schenten.
Coach’s Decisions
Coach Wörns said there were many hard cases and that only 18 field players could be nominated. Group B includes Denmark, the host Wales, and record-winning Spain.
Outlook for the Championship
The German team’s goal is to reach at least the semi-final.
