The 1. FC Köln looks forward to Münster. On June 11, 2026, a verdict could fall at the Higher Administrative Court. Then they want to finally push the Geißbockheim expansion forward. All the background can be found here: FC-Vice President Sobek announces consequences: „Scenarios prepared“ Updated: Does the 1. FC Köln finally get on the right track with a long-standing issue? Or will it remain a nightmare without an end? It's about the expansion at Geißbockheim. For twelve years, the club has been trying to push through important modernizations and create places for young players. On June 11 (9 am) the case will be heard again at the Higher Administrative Court (OVG) in Münster. At the center is the question of whether the zoning plan is effective. The proceedings have been running for six years over several instances. In Cologne, politics has been debated for years and the FC can often only watch in dismay. The current status is a compromise from 2024: The FC is allowed to build the training center next to the Franz-Kremer Stadium and gives up three artificial turf pitches on the Gleueler Wiesen. The city has promised the FC to provide other satellite pitches. But that has not happened yet. FC Financial Director Philipp Türoff (50) has already said that the compromise has failed. Now the FC is relying on the pitches on the Gleueler Wiesen. Whether the OVG will issue a verdict on June 11 can only be hoped for. It does not have to be a verdict on that day. Cologne's Vice President Ulf Sobek announced on request from EXPRESS.de: „We have prepared scenarios after the verdict on June 11. Then the overall strategy will be further developed. There, some things will be decided and consequences will arise.“ It all sounds quite vague. If the zoning plan is lawful, the city would have to lease the Gleueler Wiesen to the FC and grant a building permit for the three artificial turf pitches in the protected area. Whether this will happen is more than questionable, as a majority in the council is not in sight. At the FC, however, it is clear that the club will start building the training center in early 2027. The catch: This would result in a crucial training area next to the Franz-Kremer Stadium being lost due to acute space shortages. The FC would then have a modern 50-million-euro building, but with existing space shortages, it would have one less area for training. For a football club, this is more than bad. However, the club must build, otherwise the next setback threatens: The council has granted a building permit for the building in 2024. This permit is valid for three years. Therefore, the excavators must roll in 2027, otherwise everything can be delayed further or the FC would have to start the approval procedures all over again. Sobek says about the topic: „At the training center, we are clear.“ Means: 2027 will be built! Where the children and young people of the FC will then train, is still in the stars.
